California's $3,500 EV rebate favors Rivian and Lucid over Tesla
Governor Newsom signed SB 168 establishing the MyFirstEV program: a $3,500 instant rebate for first-time EV buyers on vehicles priced up to $50,000, and $1,750 for used EVs up to $25,000. A carve-out exempts California-headquartered manufacturers — specifically Rivian and Lucid — from the MSRP cap, while Tesla faces the $50K ceiling. The $270 million program is co-funded by participating automakers.
